They say reading extensively will make you a better writer. Several years ago you’d never catch me without a book, but babies, work, and life in general eventually took over.
In 2020, after things mellowed out a bit, I decided to return to school and finish getting my Bachelor’s. I only had one transfer credit from my previous attempt at college (fresh out of high school), so I started from scratch. I changed majors a couple of times before I realized that my true passion was and always has been writing fiction.
I graduate in August of 2025. As part of my degree requirements, I took several literature courses that reignited my love for reading. I’ve decided to put these new literary analysis skills to the test and review the books I read.
As an author who gave up on traditional publishing a long time ago, I believe it is important to support others who have made the same choice. There are so many talented writers out there who would have never been discovered if it weren’t for newly-available non-traditional publishing options.
Spilled Ink is a book review blog. When choosing books to review, I judge their covers, blurbs, and the first chapter. If the book fails to hook me, I will include the reason(s) in my review.
If I can encourage just one person to check out a lesser-known author, I will have achieved my goal.
