I am Tara Jackson.

I started out as a YA author, but finally gave in to the pull of mind-bending science fiction, spine-tingling cosmic horror, paranormal nightmare fuel, and everything in between.

What Sets Me Apart?

Atmospheric Pressure

I love to put my characters in tense situations. While detailed descriptions of the physical setting are crucial, the atmosphere is what completes the scene.

To reach the reader and make the story fully immersive, I try to crank the intensity as high as it will go so the reader is forced to experience emotions right along with the character. Capturing romantic tension, sheer terror, violent rage, panic, the splintering of sanity… These things are what make a story truly unforgettable. I want people to be haunted long after the story is over.

Character Alchemy

You can have a cool premise, plot an entire novel, and write pages and pages of a story, but the whole thing is garbage if the character isn’t realistic. Plastic characters are a product of forced creativity. Writing in an authentic voice that reflects my character’s background and personality is an absolute must.

My process doesn’t begin until a hot mess of a character comes to me and demands I tell their story. I don’t create characters purposely or consciously. This organic process makes them more than just protagonists; they become companions to those who read their story.
